When God Writes the Story

There are moments in life when you can feel God moving—before you even understand what He’s doing.
November 19, 2025.
It started as an ordinary morning.
Collin and I were sitting together, coffee in hand, when I said out of nowhere,
“I think it’s awesome how many families at Calvary Church have adopted kids.”
To anyone else, it might have sounded like a passing comment. But in my heart, I was thinking something deeper…
Our girls were growing up.
They were becoming independent.
Life was shifting into a new season.
I didn’t know it yet—but God was already writing the next chapter.
A Text That Changed Everything
That same night at 7:30 PM, my phone buzzed.
It was my friend.
Pictures.
Two little faces.
And a message I couldn’t ignore:
“Adopt these kids!!! They are siblings. They need a home. They need a teacher mom. You are the mom!!! I’m blessing this foster mom right now however I can. She already has 4 kids and can’t adopt them. She doesn’t want to release them to the state yet so they don’t get separated. You can train these little disciples—that’s your gifting!!”
I just sat there.
Because in that moment… I knew.
God was confirming what had only been a quiet thought that morning.
And if you knew my friend — you know when God puts something on her heart, it’s never random. (She’s literally handed me an abandoned dog and a cat before!)
This felt the same.
Except bigger.
The Meeting
By Friday, November 28, we met them.
A sweet 4 and 5 years old. And their foster mom doing everything she could to keep them together.
They weren’t just names anymore.
They were real.
They were ours to love—even if we didn’t yet know how long.
God in the Little Moments
On December 5, they spent the night.
We played in the snow.
Went to a ladies’ prayer breakfast.
They ran and laughed with the Ashland kids.
Went to church to be loved by the ACC family.
And that night… a slumber party with the girls.
It felt natural.
Easy.
Like they belonged.
They came back again and again—
Christmas break (24th, 29th, 30th)…
Spring break (March 7)…
Each visit felt less like “watching kids” and more like… family forming.
The Call
We had plans to watch them again over Mother’s Day weekend.
Simple.
Temporary.
But on April 23, everything changed.
A missed call.
A returned call. Minutes that seemed like years in anticipation.
And finally the connection. A question that carried eternal weight:
Would you be willing to foster…and, if it comes to it… adopt them?
Our Yes
There are moments where obedience costs something.
And there are moments where obedience feels like stepping into something God already prepared.
This was both.
We said yes.
Not because we had everything figured out.
Not because it was easy.
But because it was clear.
God had been moving from the very beginning—before we ever recognized it.
We weren’t searching. We weren’t striving.
And yet…mountains were moving that we didn’t even know were there.
Right Now
Fast forward to today, Friday, April 24, 2026. Five months later, Collin left drill early to be home.
They are on the way—along with everything they own.
Gracie, Katie, and I are sitting at a mother/daughter banquet in White Hall…
trying to be present—but honestly?
We’re counting the minutes.
Because tonight…
We go home to our new family.
We still don't know how the story will end but we know God is leading the way and we trust Him because His way is always better.

And that’s when God winked—turning ordinary struggles into extraordinary miracles. ✨
