A Dryer, a Technician, and God’s Provision

Updated: Sep 30

This week, our dryer’s heating element went out. Not exactly an expense we had planned for. When the technician from Dick Van Dyke came, he quoted us $400 to fix it—and honestly, that number stung. Trying to be wise with our budget, it felt like one of those moments where you just have to swallow hard and move forward.

But God had another plan.

As I began chatting with Peter, the technician, the conversation quickly turned from appliances to something much bigger—God Himself.

Peter, who moved here from Cameroon three years ago, shared about his life, his love for soccer, and his work at Dick Van Dyke. He mentioned that the owners of the company are strong Christians. I smiled and said, “That’s exactly why we bought our appliances from you—we wanted to support local Christian businesses.”

His face lit up. “You bought these from us?” he asked. When I nodded, he smiled and said, “Well then, it won’t be $400. I can do this for closer to $200.”

Just like that, God turned a stressful bill into a blessing.

But He didn’t stop there. We also gained a new friend. Peter told us about the weekly soccer games he plays with friends of ours from Cameroon. Among them are a priest from Ashland, a pastor from Beardstown, and a co-worker of Collin’s who is doing amazing work in Springfield to help the community become more self-sufficient through gardening.

In the middle of what started as a problem, God showed up. By simply talking about Him, He opened the door to:

  • A financial blessing we didn’t expect.

  • A joyful conversation that felt like a new friendship forming.

  • A reminder that His love shows up in the everyday details of our lives.

God is so cool. He cares enough to show us that when we trust Him—even in something as simple as a broken dryer—He provides. He loves His children, and His blessings go beyond what we could ever plan or expect.

And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

And that’s when God Winked—turning ordinary struggles into extraordinary miracles.
